MENTORAS for Child Protection and Welfare

BASIC PRINCIPLES

 

Awareness raising of the general public, the educational community and parents is very important in order to prevent child abuse and neglect. A significant part of child abuse (by adults or peers) has ignorance as its main cause ignorance and CAN BE PREVENTED.

 

Each child is entitled to be aware of their rights and to be educated in self-protection

Protection of children from emotional, physical and sexual abuse, as well as neglect, and the therapy of victimized children, as well as of the adults abused as children, are their unequivocal rights and a responsibility of our society.

 

MENTORAS Actions:

As part of our awareness raising campaign, we organize public talks-discussions for parents, teachers and children, on the following topics:

 

a)      “Motives for Learning and Creativity: Preparation of students for professional life”

b)      “Values Education against violent and self-destructive behaviour in puberty”

c)      “Bullying and the development of Self-esteem and Self-Protection in children”

d)      “Child Abuse and neglect”

 

 

-We send free printed material and leaflets on a variety of topics (see ‘Leaflets’ and ‘News’ section) at request

-We offer free confidential telephone counselling to parents, teachers, regarding the above matters

-We offer socio-emotional health promotion programs on self-esteem and self-protection to children and young adults

-We offer Vocational counselling to teenagers and young adults
